Westray's dedicated plant hire operation — filling the gap left by Danny Harcus Construction with a purpose-built fleet, available island-wide.
Vestragarðr was established in 2026 to fill the gap left by the retirement of Danny Harcus Construction — Westray's long-standing groundworks contractor. The island now has a locally-based, purpose-built fleet maintained to a professional standard.
Operating as a VAT-registered business from Nearhouse, every machine is available for dry or wet hire. All rates exclude VAT at 20%. Minimum 48 hours booking notice required. Payment within 14 days of invoice by FASTER Payments.
Neil Scott, owner-operator, brings engineering and project management expertise to every job. A condition report is signed at every collection and return.

All plant is maintained to a professional standard. A condition report is signed at every collection and return. Operators must hold the relevant licence — details on each card.
2025 model 1.6-tonne tracked mini excavator. Three buckets. 2.55m dig depth. GPS tracking. The flagship machine for trenching, drainage, landscaping and site clearance.
Three-stage mast rough-terrain forklift. 2,600 kg rated capacity. 4WD diesel. Suited to farm, construction and port work across uneven ground.
Fully rebuilt engine. 3-point linkage, 540rpm PTO. Available alone or as a combination with the Fleming 6ft topper at £110/day.
Reversible plate compactor with OPP/50/DIO detachable wheel kit. Client provides petrol. Dry hire only.
PTO-driven rear-mounted topping mower. 1.83m cutting width. Available standalone or combined with the MF135 tractor at £110/day.
All rates exclude VAT at 20%. Wet hire includes fuel only — no operator provided under any arrangement. Damage waiver (15%/day) applies if hired-in plant insurance cannot be evidenced.

No operator is provided under any hire arrangement. Client must provide a competent, licensed operator. Evidence (CPCS/NPORS card, forklift licence, Category F) required before collection.
Dry hire: client provides all fuel. Wet hire: fuel included. Machines returned at collection fuel level — shortfall charged at £1.50/litre + £10 admin. Altrad Belle: petrol only, client provides.
Client responsible for the machine during the hire period. Damage waiver (15%/day) is mandatory if hired-in plant insurance cannot be evidenced. Condition report signed at every collection and return.
Payment within 14 days of invoice by FASTER Payments. VAT invoices issued for all charges. Late payment interest at 8% above BoE base rate under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts Act 1998.
Equipment must remain on Westray at all times without prior written consent. Cancellations within 24 hours: 50% of day rate. Breakdowns: charge ceases from notification. Governed by Scots law.
