Vestragarðr was established in 2026 to fill the gap left by the retirement of Danny Harcus Construction — Westray's incumbent groundworks contractor. The island now has a locally-based, purpose-built fleet ready to support builders, farmers, and landowners.
Operating as a VAT-registered sole trader from Nearhouse, Westray, every machine is owned outright or under finance, maintained to a professional standard, and available for both dry and wet hire. All rates exclude VAT at 20%.
Neil Scott, the owner-operator, brings extensive engineering and project management experience to every job. Minimum 48 hours booking notice required. Payment within 14 days of invoice.

All plant is maintained to a professional standard with a full condition report signed at every collection and return. Operators must hold the relevant licence or competency card — details below.
2025 model 1.6-tonne tracked mini excavator. Manual hitch with three bucket options. 2.55m dig depth. GPS pin tracking fitted. The flagship machine — ideal for trenching, drainage, landscaping and site clearance.
Three-stage mast rough-terrain forklift. 2,600 kg rated capacity at standard load centre. Diesel engine, four-wheel drive. Suited to farm, construction and port work across uneven ground.
Fully rebuilt engine. 3-point linkage, 540rpm PTO. New clutch, wiring, lights and front tyres. Available with the Fleming 6ft topper for field maintenance and vegetation control.
Honda-engined reversible plate compactor. 20/40 kN centrifugal force. OPP/50/DIO detachable wheel kit included — easy single-person site movement. Client provides petrol.
PTO-driven rear-mounted topping mower. 1.83 m cutting width. Available as a tractor-and-topper combination only — hired alongside the MF135.

All rates exclude VAT at 20%. A VAT invoice is issued for every charge. Wet hire includes the operator and fuel. Dry hire — client provides both.

A condition report is signed by both parties at every collection and return. These are the key terms — full conditions available on request.

For dry hire, the client must provide a competent, licensed operator. Evidence of competency (CPCS/NPORS card, forklift licence or Category F) must be produced before collection. Vestragarðr may refuse release without evidence.
Dry hire: client responsible for fuel. Machine returned at the same level as collected. Shortfall charged at £1.50/litre. Diesel and HVO only — no petrol in any diesel machine. FC5000E: petrol only, provided by client.
Vestragarðr maintains fleet all-risks insurance. Client is liable for damage caused by negligence, misuse, or operation by an unlicensed person. A condition report is signed at every collection and return.
Payment due within 14 days of invoice. BACS preferred. Late payment interest at 8% above Bank of England base rate under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts Act 1998. VAT invoices issued for all charges.
All equipment must remain on Westray at all times unless prior written consent has been obtained. Cancellations within 24 hours: 50% of minimum 2-hour charge applies. Breakdowns: hire charge ceases from time of notification.
